Organising an Easter egg hunt is no small feat, especially if you’re crafting a whole host of clues from the ground up. But guess what? I’m here to sprinkle a little magic into your Easter festivities! Having planned egg hunts for what feels like forever, I’m practically a veteran.
My memories are filled with epic family get-togethers. I have three much older siblings, so I grew up with my nieces and nephews. I remember traveling to Scotland to my sister’s house; it was bloomin’ cold. Despite the nippy weather (hello, almost perpetual rain!), the Easter egg hunt my sister put together was just fab.
The tradition didn’t just end with my childhood; it found its way to my own kids, and I have created various hunts over the years. Today, I’m going to share the simplest and easiest to set up an Easter egg hunt. This is a treasure hunt type scavenger hunt where your kids will follow a list of clues to find a surprise at the end!
- 18 ready-made clues just waiting to kick-start your adventure, with the flexibility to add more or tweak them to your heart’s content using our online template.
- A delightful mix of indoor and outdoor locations for the clues, ensuring your hunt is unstoppable, come hurricane or high water.
- For those with older kids, why not break tradition and lock the final treasure in a box, turning the hunt into a fun puzzle challenge?
Here are some examples of the Easter egg hunt clues.
- Time to check the closet and search through all the coats: let’s see if we look really hard we can find the next hidden note.
- Time for one more. Let’s go check the sock drawer.
- It makes tasty breakfast food & rhymes with “coaster”. We’ll find the next clue close to the ………?
- You’re doing so great this is a breeze. Let’s find the next clue quickly because it might freeze.
- For the next location, just use your nose. Go to where we toss dirty clothes.
- Wow, there are a lot of clues, perhaps you should look inside one of your shoes.
- What could the next clue be? Hurry along, and you will find it by the base of a tree.
- Wondering where the next clue will be found? I wash your clothes and I go round and around.
- You use me when the plants are thirsty by filling me with water from the sink!
- Keep going now, and you’ll soon be there, but first search under the garden chair.
- I think it’s time to trim the grass; it never seems to grow slower. The next clue you seek can be found near the ……..?
- Soaring back and forth through the air, a clue you will find by this moving chair.
- Wow, you are showing great common sense; the next clue is hanging out by the garden………?
- After all this treasure hunting, we’ll want to eat our fill. If we have good weather, we could cook outside on the …….?
- When it’s time to go to bed, you go here to rest your head.
- Let’s skip and jump, but be sure to make haste. What do you think we will find with the toothpaste?
- If you want to gather leaves, this garden tool you should take. The next clue you seek is near the ………?
- Another place for you to look is where you keep your favorite book.

Easter Egg Hunt Treasure Ideas
What kind of treasure will await your players at the end of the Easter egg hunt? Solving all the clues deserves a reward, doesn’t it? A gift basket full of goodies, perhaps. Here are some suggestions for Easter-themed treasure hunt gifts that will have your players hopping with excitement:
- Customized Easter Eggs: Imagine the surprise in the kids eyes when they find an egg with their name on it!
- Bunny Bucks: If you want to do something a little different and not have a basket full of chocolate, how about some bunny bucks? Use these as a gifts family movie nights, extra screen time or other fun activities.
- DIY Craft Kits: Unleash their creativity. I was (am) a crafting fan, so my kids would always get something to spark their imagination. I found that the pound store always has some mini craft packs. The bonus is that they keep the kids entertained over the half-term, too!
- Green Finger Gifts: For our green-thumbed adventurers, little kits with seeds for planting their own flowers or herbs. I used to love growing cress seeds with my kids when they were little. I love these cress seed kits; lots of fun.
- Bookworm Gifts: Reading is a great skill to foster in your kids early on. You can find a lovely selection of books and perhaps color your own bookmark craft activity as an easter gift.
- Cookie-making kit: This is a fun treasure hunt gift, as it keeps on giving and lets you spend quality time together as a family making delicious treats.
- Chocolate: It is Easter, so why the heck not?
- A Board game: Another gift that is great for the whole family.
Easter Egg Hunt Setup
Simply create your clues or print out these treasure hunt cards from my kit and cut them out. The order in which you play the clues doesn’t really matter. Plan the route your players will follow, set up your clue cards at each location, and hide the Easter treasure for the end of your game. It’s super simple.
Pro Tip!
When you are planning out your easter egg hunt route think about having the players travel the furthest between each clue. The game will last a lot longer and the kids will get a few extra steps in too!
