FREE Fourth of July Scavenger Hunt

This is a fun printable activity I put together at the request of some of my American friends. I know I’m a Brit, but I love joining in on the fun. The hotdogs, the games, and watching the kids having fun dressing in red, white, and blue and being proud of their nation. What’s not to love?

How to use the FREE 4th of JulyScavenger Hunt.

The 4th of July scavenger hunt has been created to be easy to set up and play.

  • Create a neighborhood game. Hide the picture cards around your neighborhood for the kids to tick off their list. This is fun for older kids to get them out and about and off their games consoles!
  • You can also just hide the cards around the house or backyard and have the kids check off each item from the printable sheet.
  • I’ve put together a video so the game can be played online across different households and played over Zoom. You can just play the video and have the children run around trying to find the cards.
  • Print out a couple of sets of picture cards. Have the children play snap or go fish with them. Use the cards for memory match games; these are great for building up mental agility in the little ones.

What’s Included in the 4th July scavenger hunt?

In my FREE Fourth of July scavenger hunt, you will find 2 game boards per 8.5″ x11″ page. Print as many as you need. There are 10 matching picture cards to print out for players to find. I’ve also added a patterned backing paper so you can print on the reverse of the cards.

If you have one, cut out the cards and run them through a laminator to use year after year. Go ahead and laminate the game cards too. Just make sure to use a dry-erase pen on the boards and not a permanent marker. Yep, I forgot to do this once. Oh, the shame!

When printing and preparing the cards I always choose bright white paper or card stock. Normal copy paper is a little dull, and your print will not be as crisp. But hey it’s only us adults that notice those things, I doubt the kiddos would even bat an eyelid! The hunt will be a great activity to keep the kids busy while you sip on a drink or are busy preparing a tasty feast for everyone.

SCAVENGER HUNT GAME ONLINE VIDEO

So, let’s talk about the video. For a fast-paced indoor activity, this is a lot of fun. It’s a timed version of the game. The players stand where they can watch the video. Hide the cards in the room where the video is playing. As the video plays, different cards appear on screen. The players have 30 seconds to find the correct card. Hide the cards where the players can easily see them.

Have a place where each child must return to after the 30 seconds is up. If they found the correct card they can tick it off their list. You can award points for the quickest and the most items found.

SCAVENGER HUNT PRIZES

Everyone loves winning prizes, and you can throw in some small gifts for the participants at the end of the game. There will be all kinds of goodies available at this time of year to match the theme. If in doubt, a batch of my chewy chocolate chip cookies will go down a treat. They are absolutely delicious and easy to make. Pop in a cello bag, tie it with some festive ribbon, and you’re done. You can find the recipe HERE.

1. Candy is always a winner!
2. Disney Ears
3. Patriotic Enamel Pins
4. Edible treats – use these cute cello bags and fill them with cookies, popcorn or other goodies
5. Gift vouchers – you can print your own. Things like a pizza night or a movie trip are fun vouchers to offer as prizes.
