What’s included in this treasure hunt?

This Indiana Jones treasure hunt includes traditional rhyming clues as well as puzzles to solve and secret messages to decode to find the treasure. You can get even more creative and lock some of the clues up in boxes to make it a mini-escape game.

Adventure Treasure Hunt Clue Locations.

You’ll find a scroll to start the treasure hunt game. This will have your first clue on it. The first activity is a jigsaw puzzle. Players have to find the pieces and assemble the puzzle to reveal the next location.

  • Shoe
  • Under a Table
  • Bedroom
  • Mirror
  • Book
  • Shower or Bath
  • Clock
  • Fridge/Freezer
  • Front Door
  • Fork
  • Washing Machine
  • Chair

Mix up the clues and play them in any order you like! Don’t feel like playing a certain clue? Just skip it! I’ve even included blank clue cards so you can add your own personal touch to the game. You have the option to use our convenient online template or simply print out the page and let your creativity flow as you write your own clues by hand. It’s all up to you.

First Clue and Adventure Hunt Scroll.

To start the game players are given an old looking scroll. This indicates their first activity. The players need to find fragments of a map! I like to roll the scroll up and tie with twine and have set up with a few props to make a statement. You can set this task up in a separate room and hide the pieces of the map for players to find. Depending on the age of the players you can lock puzzle pieces in a box. Leave them a clue on how to open it. There is a blank map that you can use to add a different location than a shoe, just type your location and cut into pieces to form a jigsaw puzzle.

There are gift tags in the kit that you can write your clues onto and attach to the locked box. Perhaps your lock code can be the date of birth of the player or a clue of where to find a hidden key.

Rhyming Treasure Hunt Clue Cards.

I went for a rustic feel to the clue cards and added in burn marks and some fun graphics. There are 4 clue cards per 8.5 x 11 printable sheet. There are seven rhyming clue cards and a task card in this style.

You do not need to add tasks to your treasure hunt but I like to add them in as a way of playing extra games at birthday partys.

Puzzles, Ciphers and More!

As well as the seven regular rhyming clues there are puzzles and secret codes included in the treasure hunt kit that need to be deciphered to reveal the next location in the game. This is a pigpen cypher clue.

This may look a little complicated but it is deceptively simple. The letters are represented by the grids that surround them. If you are paying with younger children you may need to give them some hints on how to solve this clue. You can leave the clue out totally if you do not want to include it.

This particular clue when deciphered leads players to a washing machine.

Follow the golden coins!

There are a few clue/activities where you can add your own location. I like adding these in as you send players outside or lead them to unique areas of your home. Some of these clues will see a trail of coins leading players to a golden idol, or perhaps popping balloons to find gemstones that will lead the players to the next location. There is a good assortment of puzzles and activities to make this treasure hunt one to remember. I have done all the hard work for you all that’s really left to do is print and cut out the printables. Don’t forget to add in some treasure for the end of the hunt!

Game Tasks And Extras.

I like to add extra activities to my treasure hunts. This does mean that you have to get more hands-on with the hunt and not just leave the kids to it. The result is so much more enjoyable though.

Here is what I do. At different points around the treasure hunt, I might have a locked box with the next clue trapped inside. For players to receive the key or lock combination to open the box they must perform one of my tasks.

One of the tasks added is to complete the jungle run. I added this activity to be set up as an obstacle course. Set up a fun course with activities like walking across hot lava, anything that would go well with the Indiana Jones theme.

Games Extras

There are some additional printables included in the Indiana Jones-style treasure hunt. I have included an editable birthday poster, welcome poster, themed envelopes, water bottle wrappers and party gift tags.

How To Set Up Your Treasure Hunt

When you have purchased the treasure hunt, you will be sent an email with the link to your files ready to download and print. Set aside some time to prepare for your treasure hunt. Cut out your clues and prepare any extras that you may wish to include in your game. I recommend using bright white paper or card for your printables as the print quality will be so much better.

To make your party game go down a storm, find some props to help you set the scene — lots of rubber snakes, lamps with fake flames and vines to adorn your rooms. Don’t forget to throw in some explorer hats, whips and a nap sack, and your treasure hunters are good to go.

A great way to add an instant atmosphere is to play some music, or perhaps even play a background video on Youtube. You have now set the scene, your props adorning your house, the music is playing and your clues are hidden. Time to enjoy the hunt!
