Fairy Treasure Hunt Clues

Treasure hunts are possibly one of my favorite things to do at a birthday party (I have hosted so many over the years). Morgan’s Harry Potter-inspired Treasure Hunt and Joshua’s Indiana Jones Treasure Hunt are possibly my favorites! Recently I have been making new hunts upon request. I was over the moon to be asked to create a fairy treasure hunt.

For the fairy hunt, the aim is for players to go on an adventure. Along the way, they discover lost items, such as a thimble, pinecone, letter, and more. They solve quests and complete puzzles to discover each new clue’s location.

FREE CHOICE LOCATION CLUE

This is a fun clue that you can use to lead players to any location of your choice. Cut out and create a path with the pictures of the mushrooms. A fun idea if you are playing outside is to have the mushroom lead through an obstacle course, finally leading to the next location.

I have crammed a lot of different types of puzzles into the game. There are simple jigsaw puzzles, cipher wheel, morse code, and activities that include finding hidden objects. If you feel that one of the clues is too tricky or you don’t want to use that location, omit that puzzle from your game. I love making these games to be as adaptable as possible, if you don’t like the look of one of the puzzles don’t use it. There is no set route/path you need to follow; you can pick the locations you like and plan a route that suits your home or garden.

What do you need to set up the treasure hunt?

Expect to take about 30-40 minutes to prepare the game material for your treasure hunt. You will also need to take time to plan your treasure hunt route, cut out, and hide your clue. If you don’t want to include one of the locations just omit that clue. You will find a tracker sheet included in the kit so you can record the order of your clues.

What should I use as the treasure?

Rule number one is that you can’t host a treasure hunt without having some kind of treasure to be discovered at the end. If you are planning the treasure hunt as a birthday present reveal, that’s pretty easy to set up. All you will need to do is hide the presents at the last location. If you are hosting the game as a party activity, then you may want to consider having the treasure double up as your party favors (if you are including them).

If you are not having party favors, why not have the final treasure be a tea party, birthday cake, or perhaps a picnic basket filled with goodies for an outside hunt?

Fairy Party Favour Ideas:

If your kiddies are anything like mine, they love receiving a party bag. It is always an extra cost to consider when planning your party, and none of us want to fill them with plastic toot that gets thrown into the bin the second they get home.

What to add to a fairy-themed party bag?

So, what can you put inside that is fun, won’t add that extra strain on the purse, and the kids will actually enjoy?

  • Colouring pages
  • Puzzles
  • Stationary, pens, pencils, erasers
  • Craft projects.
  • Candy (I like to add something sweet; it’s a birthday after all, but I know not everyone does).
  • Ingredients to make a luxury hot chocolate
  • Make your own fairy wand

Some of these are so simple to put together yourself. You can find some printable coloring pages, word searches, and puzzles free online. Print them out onto paper, roll them into a scroll, and tie them with ribbon. Add two or three crayons or pencils.  Pop these inside a favor bag, and voila. I have a great blog post with some free party favors that match this treasure hunt activity. There are giant gift tags, coloring pages, and more. Another fun idea for a party favor is to put together a hot chocolate kit. All you need is a hot chocolate mix and marshmallows. Place all the ingredients into a ziplock bag or these cellophane cones. Attach one of the gift tags in the game kit, and it will match, too! Just write on the back the instructions to make the hot chocolate. It’s so simple but something fun for the kids to make and do after the party.

Are you ready to play?

The kids will love this game, and even the adults will want to join in. Whether it’s for a birthday party, a sleepover, or just for fun, this is a winner every time! With the option to grab either an indoor or outdoor game, you should be able to set up anywhere. It’s a great way to get the kids doing something fun that doesn’t involve a screen and gets their brains working, too!

I have made so many escape room treasure hunts I have made over the years. Now, I love getting crafty, but I know that it isn’t for everyone, so here are two super simple treasure hunts. An outside rhyming treasure hunt and a secret code birthday treasure hunt. Both have minimal set-up and will take you minutes to prep. Do you have any great treasure hunt themes you would like to see? Drop me a message or reply to this post I would love to hear them!
