Are you looking for a fun and quick way to celebrate somebody’s birthday this year? I have a new birthday scavenger hunt perfect for kids, adults, boys, girls, young and old. Let’s start by saying that this treasure hunt is a little different to your traditional rhyming hunts. You will find different puzzles leading you to each location. There’s minimal set-up and low printing too. I made this birthday treasure hunt for those people who just don’t like sticking and cutting (my husband being one of those).

Birthday Treasure Hunt Clues

This treasure hunt is so easy to set up and will only take minutes. Each 8.5 x 11″ printable sheet comes with two clues. All you need to do is cut each sheet in half and hide the clues in each location. Super simple and super easy to prep. Giving you more time to spend on other fun activities, or prepping party food.

I thought it would be fun to make a brand-new kind of birthday treasure hunt. This one can be played by anybody, no matter what your age. The clues are not super tricky but are more interesting than just your regular rhyming clues.

The clues are generic enough that they should be suitable for most people’s homes. There is no set order in which the clues need to be played. You can pick and choose the clues you want to use. There are 12 puzzle clues leading you to different locations, either inside or outside, depending on which set of puzzles you choose from. You do not need to use all of the puzzles, If there is a location you don’t want to include, just keep that puzzle out, simple.

There’s something fun watching your family running around your home trying to find treasure. The suspense, I think, is the most fun. Not knowing what is waiting for you at the end is just exciting.

The clues used in this treasure hunt are all pretty simple to solve. They are something a little different from your ordinary hunt. There is a simple maze, pig pen cypher, morse code, braille a word search and more.

If, like me, you like to get your money’s worth out of a game, why not create even more fun by locking away individual clues inside locked boxes. In the treasure hunt kit you will find blank cards that can be used to write your own hints or clues to open your locks.

Place a puzzle inside a locked box (a simple key or combination lock work a treat). Attach a clue to the box and include a hint to solve the lock combination or location of the key.

Birthday Treasure Hunt Clues Around the House

Let’s make your friends and family’s birthdays even more memorable. Treasure hunts I find are always a huge hit. It doesn’t matter how young or how old you are. There is something fun about searching for treasure. The treasure, in this instance, can be birthday gifts, a birthday treat or a surprise hidden at the end of the hunt. There are two sets of treasure hunt clues available in this particular style. The location the puzzle send you are found below.

Inside and Outside Clue Locations:

In the UK you can never predict the weather! You can absolutely guarantee that if you plan a BBQ or outside activity, the heavens will open and yours plans are just a total washout. Most of my hunts are done inside, for that reason! If I get the opportunity to host a treasure hunt outside you bet I do! Here are the locations I put together for the outside treasure hunt.

Birthday Party Ideas.

If you are planning to use the game as part of a birthday party, I would opt to have the final treasure double up as your party favours.

Party favours do not need to be super expensive. Print out some colouring pages, add a few crayons and voila, don’t forget a small sweet treat. Growing up in the UK, you always had a bouncy ball and some penny sweets in the bottom of your party bag and the obligatory squashed slice of party cake. Whatever you do, try to avoid messy or noisy favours.

Here are some ideas you can include in your party bag fillers:

  • Large Bubble wands
  • Colouring pages
  • Crayons or Pencils
  • Cookies or biscuits (I’m a brit lol)
  • Novelty Erasers
  • Card games, like UNO
  • Tic-Tac-Toe game to match your party
  • A mini-puzzle book.
  • A personalised chocolate bar

The clues are generic enough that they can be used for adults and children and in most homes. You may have figured out I’m a sucker for a good treasure hunt. Who doesn’t love solving clues and figuring out a mystery? I loved mystery books and adored solving puzzles. I’ve always had a soft spot for grid logic puzzles. I have never been particularly good with words as I suffer from a type of dyslexia, It’s somewhat annoying as it also affects my speech, some of the things I say are hilarious. Anyhoo, I much prefer puzzles to rhyming clues I have always found them to be more entertaining.
