Silly, and Slightly Competitive: My Favorite Candy Dice Games

If you’ve ever tried to entertain a group of kids (or, let’s be honest, a mix of kids, teens, and VERY competitive adults), you know the struggle is real. You want something easy to set up, fun, and just a pinch of chaos to keep everyone interested without things spiraling into full meltdown mode.

Say hello to Candy Dice Games.

These are my go-to for parties, family get-togethers, and classroom fun. They are super simple to set up, great fun for all ages, basically a solid parenting win.

What Is a Candy Dice Game?

Think of it as part board game, part competitive dice throwing, and part “wait… how did I just lose everything?”

Players sit in a circle with a small pile of candy, something small like M&M’s or Hershey kisses but counters work brilliantly too. Roll a die, follow the rule, and watch the chaos unfold.

Is it simple? Absolutely, yes. Predictable? Not even close.

Basic Rules to Get You Started

Here’s a classic version you can set up in minutes:

  • Each player starts with 3-4 candies.
  • Players then take turns rolling one die
  • Each number = an action

Winning: First player to reach 10 candies wins. Everyone gets to keep/eat the candy they have at the end.

No Candy? No Problem

Sometimes I will opt to use counters for the game and have a prize at the end for the winner. The same rules apply when you collect counters until you have 10.

You can easily swap candy for: Bingo Counters, Coins or even lego pieces! Same idea, just a little less of a sugar rush.

Why Kids (and Adults) Love It

  • Fast-paced: No long waits between turns
  • Full of surprises: You can go from winning to last place in seconds
  • Easy to learn: Great for a wide range of ages
  • Just enough chaos: Keeps everyone on their toes

And honestly, the reactions when someone has to hand over their stash? Worth it every time. My mother in law is surprisingly competitive and she wants to win at all costs, the grandkids had better watch out because she is after their candy haha!

Don’t Forget the Prize

Yes, the candy is technically the prize so you don’t need to add anything. If it’s for a party you may like to add a bonus prize for the winner. Here are a few ideas:

  • Perhaps a larger candy bar.
  • “Winner certificate”
  • A silly winners crown
  • A Large oversized winner medallion.
  • Some prettily wrapped homemade cookies.

It doesn’t have to be big just something that adds a little extra something something to the end of the game. If it matches your party theme that’s just a bonus.

Want to Mix It Up, Try Chaos Mode?

Want to make it even more unpredictable? Try the chaos mode. I love it when I play with my family, here are the simple rules:

You play with two dice instead of one. Ideally different colours. (I make a different printable to match my theme). When the Chaos Number is rolled, players must:

  • Swap seats AND
  • Leave their candy pile behind

Which means… whoever you swap with, that’s your new stash. This is a great addition.

If you love easy, ready-to-go options, quick to set up, but still feels special take a gander at all the versions of the game I have created. I even create little game boards that match for players to fill up. It makes the game feel more put together, and heck I just like making it pretty haha.
