Scavenger Hunt Ideas
Need a pinch of inspiration? Here’s a list of some more creative St Patrick’s Day scavenger hunts you can run with.
- Pot of Gold Hunt: Hide chocolate gold coins around the house or yard. Attach clues to each of the coins leading players from one spot to another until they find the pot of golden goodies at the end.
- Shamrock Search: Cut out paper shamrocks and hide them around the designated area. Each shamrock can have a letter written on it, and participants must find them all to spell out a St. Patrick’s Day themed word or lock combination to open a treasure chest filled with goodies.
- Leprechaun’s Lost Items: Create a list of items that a mischievous leprechaun has lost (e.g., hat, shoe, pot of gold). Hide these items around the house or yard and have participants find them all.
- Rainbow Relay: Set up a series of stations each representing a color of the rainbow. At each station, participants must find an item of that color before moving on to the next station. The last station could lead to a pot of gold or a prize.
- Irish Trivia Hunt: Hide trivia questions related to Ireland or St. Patrick’s Day around the designated area. Participants must find the questions and answer them correctly to move on to the next clue. This could be a lot of fun for teens and adults.
- Green Treasure Hunt: Hide various green items around the house or garden. Participants must find as many green items as they can within a certain time limit.
- Lucky Charm Hunt: Hide lucky charms (like horseshoes, four-leaf clovers, or lucky pennies) around the area. Participants must find all the lucky charms to win a prize.
- Irish Jigsaw Puzzle Hunt: Create a jigsaw puzzle of an Irish-themed image and hide the pieces around the area. Ultimately you want participants to find all the pieces and assemble the puzzle to reveal a message or location of some hidden leprecahun treasure.
- St. Patrick’s Day Riddle Hunt: Write a series of St. Patrick’s Day themed riddles that lead players from one location to the next. Each riddle should hint at the location of the next clue.
- Leprechaun Letter Scavenger Hunt: Write a letter from a leprechaun explaining that he has hidden his gold coins or treasures around the house or yard. Participants must follow the clues provided in the letter to find the hidden treasures.
- Shamrock Scavenger: This is something a little different. You can hide lots of shamrocks all over your venue and give everyone a set time to find as many as possible. The player with the most will win a prize. You could also use pebbles painted gold and have players fill buckets.
So there you have some fun ideas for scavenger hunts. Don’t fancy making you own I have two printables that you can grab now and save you a heap of time with trying to create and come up with ideas.
St. Patricks Escape Room
I love puzzles and secret codes and this is a fun alternative to a scavenger hunt. This is an easy-to-set-up escape room game. 10 mins and your done!
Engaging the Crowd
But what’s a scavenger hunt without a buzzing crowd eager for some festive fun? Here’s how to make it spark:
- Snap & Share: Get social with a photo booth! Undoubtedly you want to get your guests to share snaps of themselves. If you have a group chat have everyone upload their pics for everyone to see. I love having pictures of fun times pop up on my photo feed.
- Leaderboard Love: Are you playing other fun St. Patrick’s Day games? Keep everyone on their toes with live updates! Also a little friendly competition as teams vie for the top spot can only add to the fun.
- Prize Possibilities: Who doesn’t love a prize? Offering rewards for the greatest gold hunters and the most spirited teams injects an extra dose of enthusiasm. For adults, how about mini bottles or whiskey, and for kiddies, a bag full of chocolate gold coins will be a big hit.
While you wait for your guests to arrive for your St. Patrick’s day shindig you can get the party started with a fun ice breaker game.
What’s your Leprechaun Name
If you have guests attending who don’t know each other, you will want to get them introduced and talking to each other. A great icebreaker is to have everyone, as they arrive, find their leprechaun name. Have them write their name on a sticker and stick it to their top so it starts as a conversation. Buy my Leprechaun name game from my shop.

At the same time, don’t forget the adults, mini bottles of whisky are a winning option.

St. Patrick’s Day Photo Booth
With smartphones at the ready, get set for a whirlwind of selfies! Throw in a photo booth and some fun Irish-themed props, and you’ll have everyone striking a pose. I create this really fun set of printable I created for a party a few years ago now. A lepre-con set lol. I can tell you I was chuckling to myself A LOT when I was putting this one together.
Party Invitations
Yes this one is boring but obviously you want to make sure everyone can attend your St. Patrick’s Day event. Selecting the right date, time, and location for your St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt is crucial. Obviously St. Patrick’s Day falls on March 17th, but if this date doesn’t work for everyone, why not opt for the weekend befor or after.
You definitely can go old school and send out paper invites but my current favorite way is to create a whatsapp group and add everyone I want to invite. The best part is that after your St Patricks day Scavenger Hunt everyone can share the photos they took at the event with everyone in the group.
