As Halloween approaches, I can feel the excitement building in our family. In addition to trick-or-treating and dressing up, there are other fun activities to enjoy. One of the fun games I’ve created this Halloween is to go on a ghost scavenger hunt. One of my nieces has two kids under the age of four, and they will be able to join in too.

In this blog post, I will go over the details of my ghost scavenger hunt, how to play it, and why it’s a great way to get into the spooky spirit of Halloween.

Step-by-step instructions on how to set up and play the games

Setting up the ghost scavenger hunt is super simple. I have included three different versions of the game in the kit, so it should be suitable for every member of the family.

These are the three different options included in the kit.

  1. A set of clue cards with rhyming clues leads them to the next location they need to go to. Just like a treasure hunt.
  2. A set of cards with a single word leading them to the next location this is great for early readers.
  3. A set of picture cards that you can hide in any location. Players are free to wander around hunting for the picture cards. This is the perfect option to play in absolutely any location as you put the cards anywhere.
Different versions of the ghost scavenger hunt

The rhyming and single word clues clues are mainly for locations around the home. These are the locations included: Mirror, shoe, fridge, front door, shampoo, table, bed, and trash. If you want the option to set up and play in the park or perhaps as a neighbourhood activity. I would choose the picture cards as you can place these wherever you choose.

  • Choose which option you want to play.
  • Print out the pages you need.
  • Hide your ghost cards.
  • Print out the scavenger hunt check page for each player.
  • Have some treats for the end of the game.

To play this game, you will need to plan and prepare it in advance. Start by choosing which version of the game participants will be solving. Once you have the cards printed out and ready, hide them in different locations or distribute the clues that will lead to the next ghost card. Lastly, select some fun prizes for completing the ghost scavenger hunt.

Fun ideas for your ghost scavenger hunt!

Get creative and use the kit a base to create an unforgettable Halloween scavenger hunt. Here are a few things you you can incorporate that will elevate the game up a few notches.

Play the ghost scavenger hunt in the dark. This is a great idea to make the game a little more spookier. Give each player a flashlight to carry as they search for the clues. It would be a lot of fun to have the area decorated with glow-in-the-dark decorations. Don’t forget some fun Halloween music playing to set the scene.

I really love this next idea, especially if you live in a great neighbourhood where other people will get involved; instead of setting up the ghost scavenger hunt at home, why not have a neighbourhood hunt for all the kids. Use the plain picture cards and distribute them to different houses. The kids will be able to tick them off as they go door-to-door trick-or-treating.

A ghost scavenger hunt is a great way to get into the Halloween spirit. This game is easy to set up, has cute characters perfect for younger players and it’s a fun way to spend time together with family. So, this Halloween, organize a ghost scavenger hunt, with the help of my printable kit and let the spookiness take over. Add Halloween decor, spooky items, and a hint of creativity to make this game more memorable, fun, and enjoyable.

Happy Ghost hunting!
