This printable escape room hunt is designed for families with kids aged around 7–12 and works just as well for siblings and even playdate fun. Why not celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with something a little different this year? My St. Patrick’s Day Escape Room Hunt is the perfect family activity! Let the kids unlock the mysteries of Leprechauns and go on an adventure to find gold coins.

What Is a St. Patrick’s Day Escape Room Hunt?
Think of it as a mix between a treasure hunt and an escape room with a St. Patrick’s Day twist.
Kids follow a series of clues hidden around the house, solving puzzles and cracking simple codes as they go. Each clue leads them closer to the final prize, while keeping them busy, thinking, and working together.
It’s active, engaging, and feels like an adventure right at home.
Who This Game Is Perfect For
This escape room hunt works especially well if:
- you want an easy at-home activity for St. Patrick’s Day
- your kids enjoy puzzles, riddles, and scavenger and treasure hunts
- you’re short on time but still want something that feels special

You will just want to make sure that if you are playing with kids younger than seven they may need a little help. This is a great activity for mixed ages, though as older kids love being the “helper”.
The aim of the game is to help the leprechaun find his lucky coins. At each clue location, the players will collect a new lucky coin. It’s a simple idea, and you can use the printable coins, or you can use real chocolate coins.
What’s Included in the Printable Escape Room Hunt
The St. Patrick’s Day escape room hunt includes:

Most families find the game lasts about an hour, but this does depend a lot on how you choose to set up the game:

- How challenging you make the hiding spots
- Whether kids play solo or in teams
You can easily shorten the game for younger players or stretch it out for older kids.

St Patrick’s Day Game Puzzles?
You will receive 14 ready-to-go clues to use around the house. The clues will lead to common objects found around the home. Places like a fridge, a bedroom, a table and pair of shoes are just a few of the locations.
You will also have the opportunity to lead some of the clues to any place of your choosing. So if you have a fab hiding spot or you want to hide a clue outside, you can easily do this. You will also find a printable certificate, game guide and a few more fun surprises in the kit. Here is a look at some of the fun puzzle ideas included in the printable game.
Leprechaun Jigsaw Puzzle
This escape room hunt is designed to work for a mix of ages, with simple puzzles that let younger players get involved as well. A good example is the jigsaw puzzle.

Even the youngest players can help piece together the leprechaun picture, while older kids tackle solving the hidden message. With different roles to play, everyone gets involved and has fun hunting around the house together.
Shamrock Decoder
I love using secret codes in my games. This cipher wheel is one of my favourites, you will see it making an appearance a lot. They are just super fun and easy to use.

Players decode their message using the wheel to translate what appears to be a scrambled message. This is what makes my escape hunt so much more exciting than a traditional rhyming treasure hunt.
pop the balloons
For this clue, hide the shamrock discs inside balloons, and mix in a few empty ones as decoys. Players pop the balloons to find their next location. If popping balloons isn’t a good fit for your group, you can simply tie the clues to the balloons instead, or skip this particular activity altogether.
The kit also includes blank shamrock discs, so you can easily write your own locations and tailor the hunt to your space. If you have a fun location you want to send the kids to, this is the perfect puzzle to do so.

Follow the rainbow polybius cipher
I love this next puzzle. A Polybius square is a simple grid is used to turn letters into pairs of numbers. In this game, players start with the image of the black pot of gold, which shows the Polybius square. They then use that grid to decode the letter pairs hidden in the rainbow image.
By matching each pair to the grid, the letters are revealed one by one, spelling out the next location in the escape treasure hunt. The number 13 represents the letter C, 35=O, 11=A and, 45=T. It’s really simple to follow and fun to decode. This clue will lead players to a coat pocket.

If you wanted to you could use this code to create even more clues. Just write out your message onto the blank clue cards. One tip though is use those clues after the players have seen the grid, they will then know how to solve it.
Ideas for the Final “Pot of Gold”
The prize doesn’t need to be big to feel exciting. Why not add a pot of gold at the end of the game filled with gold coins, treats and goodies? If your playing with adults I would definitely add some fun minature whisky or those liqure filled chocolate. Popular options include:
- Green Chocolate Hershey’s Kisses
- Shamrock piñata Fill will goodies for the end of the hunt, or even hide one of the clues inside along with some chocolate gold coins.
- Green Cauldron/Pot fill with treats and goodies
- Gold rapped rolos I love rolos; these double us a leprechaun gold!
- Gold chocolate coins
It’s the hunt that makes it feel special so you really dont have to go over the top for the treasure at the end.
Set the Scene
Step the game up a notch and get creative with your decorations. Look up some traditional Irish recipes, break out jigging tunes or dress up in festive green attire.
