Fun Wizard Treasure Hunt Idea

I love all things wizardy, and so does my daughter! This year as her birthday fast approaches, I have made a new wizard-themed game for finding her birthday goodies. I’ve already made an escape room game and an escape room hunt in the past, so this year, I have made something I’m really excited about, a QR code wizard treasure hunt.

So if, like me, you are looking for a fun wizard birthday activity, I have just the thing for you! A wizard QR Code Treasure Hunt, a new, and dare I say, innovative game that combines traditional treasure hunts with a spattering of modern technology (but grandma can totally join in too!). With the wizard treasure hunt, you’ll be able to create an epic hunt that your family are going to love.

What’s in the wizard treasure HUNT

A QR code treasure hunt is pretty much a regular treasure hunt with one fab addition. Instead of reading out your treasure hunt clues, you scan a QR code, and the next clue appears on your device. I have taken this wizard treasure hunt to the next level and added a fun wizard character, added some music and an animated message.

Check out the 24 video QR code clues in this kit! You can use them all or just a few – there’s no wrong way to set up your hunt. In fact, why not run two hunts at the same time? Divide your group into teams and race to solve 12 unique clues each. If you’re throwing a birthday bash, this is a perfect way to split your teams into manageable groups and really shake things up!

How to set up the game

So you want to know how to prepare the treasure hunt? It’s so easy to set up, you won’t believe it! First, grab some bright white card and print out all the game materials. Choose which clues you want to use and plan your route around your home. Make sure to choose locations that are far apart to keep the game going.

But that’s not all! With your route planned, it’s time to prepare the magical artefact element of the game. There are three versions of the puzzle – one has a lock key clue, one has a three-digit number for a lock, and the other is blank. If you don’t want to lock up the treasure, use the blank puzzle. If you’re feeling extra sneaky, you can even write your own clue before cutting out the pieces.

Now that everything is prepped, it’s time to set up! Use the handy sheet to write down the order of events. Place your first clue inside the envelope and the rest of the clue cards at each location and a piece of the jigsaw puzzle. As players collect the pieces, they’ll eventually assemble it to reveal the lock clue for the treasure box. How easy is that!

As well as the 24 QR video clues, you’ll find a special starting and congratulations letter, plus a video message! But wait, that’s not all – you’ll also be on a mission to collect magical artefacts to help create a special enchantment. How, you ask? With a fun and simple jigsaw puzzle, of course! As you solve each clue and progress through the hunt, you’ll find puzzle pieces that will ultimately unlock a mysterious box containing the finishing letter and treasure. And don’t forget, every successful player gets a printable certificate to commemorate the magical journey.
