Christmas Escape Game Story:
It’s December 24th, and there is so little time left before Santa has to set off delivering gifts around the world! All the elves are busy making last-minute preparations, and the new virtual reality workshop is a hive of activity!
A loud clatter and some commotion is coming from the direction of the kitchen. Chief elf Mr McJingles is sprawled on the floor, having slipped on what looks like brandy butter, resulting in a rapidly growing large purple lump to his head. He sits up looking a little dazed and confused and is acting a bit odd, as though he has been sipping on Mrs Claus’s homemade candy cane rum!
He was supposed to unlock the vault where the magic ingredient that makes the reindeer fly is kept. But with that lump growing on his head, it is clear the only place he is going to is the infirmary.
Follow McJingle’s clues to discover the code and retrieve the magic dust needed to sprinkle over the reindeer food. Good luck, the fate of Christmas depends on you!
Who can play the game?
I made this game to play on Christmas Eve with my sister’s family and we had ages from 7 to 72 playing all together. It was a fun way to spend just over an hour together without the TV on! It’s a miracle to be able to pull the kids away from their mobiles for more than five minutes!
The game is suitable for ages 8 to 108! Everyone in your family can join in, kids can get in on the action with a little help from adults. If at any point you find yourself stuck, you’ll find an online hint system you can access with hints to help you solve the puzzles.
How many people can play at one time?
I get asked this question all the time! This really is a question of how long is a piece of string. There are so many factors to consider. The age of the players. Are they a lover of puzzles or a totally newbie? What version of the game are you going to set up? I know it’s not particularly helpful, sorry!

Let’s put it this way the more people you have playing, the quicker the puzzles are solved. That makes perfect sense right? So If you want the game to last longer have smaller teams playing. If you are only looking for a short game, then a larger team will probably suit you just fine.
When I set up my games, I usually have between 4 and 8 people playing at once. Any larger and my family tend to all fight to be the supreme puzzle solver, haha!
Hint: If you have a large group. Split into teams and use the Print and Play version of the game. There’s minimal setup needed. Place everything on the table top and supply each team with a pen and a pair of scissors.
How do you play the game?
There are two versions of the game included in my Christmas “McJingles” escape room kit. A “Print and Play” version. This will only take 15 minutes for you to set up! So it is perfect for a last-minute activity. There are no locks needed, and no need to cut out and hide clues. All you need to do is print out the game material and place it on a tabletop. Super simple to set up and guaranteed fun!

You will also find a DIY version of the family Christmas escape room. This is my favourite way to set up the game. Why? Well, I do my utmost to put together a kit that helps you recreate the escape room experience right at home! Both versions are the same game but printing and set up is different.
You will probably need about an hour to set up a full-blown escape room experience, but all the hard work has been done for you. No need to try to create your own puzzles and entertaining storyline and secret codes because I’ve already done it all for you.

Your job will be to cut out puzzles, hide clues and add props to really make your game pop! I even tell you how to include physical locks and provide you with extra printable puzzles to easily add these to your game!

What puzzles are there?
I’m not going to give the game away here. I don’t want to spoil it, but there are a few different puzzles included.

- Follow patterns to reveal a hidden message.
- Find and discover secrets hidden in the blueprint of Santa’s workshop.

What’s included in the Christmas Escape Kit?
I try to chuck everything, and the kitchen sink into my kits because I just love making them. I included everything you need to successfully create a real escape room experience at home, saving you a heap of time creating your own! You will just need to fire up the printer!
- A Print and Play version of the game. Easy to set up and can be played on a tabletop.
- A DIY version of the game. This is the same great game but designed so you can print out the game material, hide clues around your home and create an at home escape experience.
- A Printable lock kit. An extra set of mini puzzles that you can use alongside the DIY game to help you add physical locks into your game.
- Bragging posters. It’s totally optional to use these, but they do make fun photo opportunities.

Got a Christmas escape kit from you before. We have 4 grandchildren now aged 8 to 17. They all get involved, with the older ones just as competitive as the younger ones. I use these with locks to lead them to the final present which is a family present – usually a voucher or money to go on an ‘adventure’. Money and vouchers can be boring gifts so this adds a bit more fun to it. Think I might have to try another one!
I love that you’re using the Christmas escape room kits this way. It’s exactly what I do, it’s a great way to add some extra fun and makes gift giving last longer.
