It’s the annual gathering of the Easter bunnies, and spring is in full swing! The blossom is on the trees, the birds are chirping, and bees are busily buzzing from one flower to another. But someone appears to be missing. Mr Cottontail, the veteran Easter bunny and DJ extraordinaire, is nowhere in sight. The party is eerily quiet, with no one pumping out the best hip-hop music. Will you discover his location and get the party hopping? Good luck.

How to Create Your DIY Escape Room

Creating your own DIY Easter escape room is easier than you think! You can purchase this ready-made game from my shop, which has all the materials needed for play. All you have to do is print the materials out and follow the instructions for setup. The puzzle-based games provide screen-free fun for your family. All my print-and-play Escape Rooms come with hints and solutions if players need help getting through tricky puzzles.

If you want to take things up a notch, you can use creative elements like decorations, props, costumes – whatever makes it feel like a real-life escape room experience! My kit includes a printable lock kit and poster pack to help you make this feel like a real escape room experience.

FUN ESCAPE ROOM Puzzles

You will find a variety of different puzzles. Some are a little trickier than others, but there is a hint sheet included in the kit if the players need help. As the game master, you can always step in and offer some hints and tips. Try not to help too early. Part of the fun of playing an escape game is to work through a puzzle. Of course, if you see that the players are starting to get frustrated, that’s your cue to step in and offer some assistance.

One of the reasons that I love creating escape games and puzzles for my family is that not only are they fun, but they are educational and get the kids thinking. As a child, I loved logic puzzles, mazes, word searches and treasure hunts. I definitely draw upon all these things when I create the games. I have incorporated a treasure hunt element with a word search in this cute carrot puzzle. There are carrots with words on them that players need to find and mark off the word search. When you set up this puzzle, hide the carrots all over the room and have the players search high and low for them. I also like to use slime (jelly baff or water beads) to hide clues inside that players need to fish through. Kids love this, but be warned, it can get messy!

Each of the puzzles is bright and colorful. A color printer will be required for you to play the game, as some of the puzzles have color elements. You will not need any fancy paper, I use regular copy paper and my ink tank printer. If you don’t have one and find yourself printing regularly, I highly recommend them. They are more expensive to purchase at first, but the amount of ink and affordability of the top-up bottles make it well worth the investment. I have an HP ink tank printer and love it (I do print out a lot, though).

Certificates and more

When the game is finished, what better way to remember the fun you had than posing for some photos? Use the props included in the kit to strike a pose and capture the fun you just had. You will find a certificate that you can print for each of the players as a memento of the game. What kid doesn’t love receiving a certificate? Throw in some Easter treats, and you have the perfect finish to your game.

You have finished your game and taken some fun selfies. What’s next? I like to continue giving my kids their Easter baskets filled with goodies and a brunch to follow, with tasty treats and a chance to chat and talk together as a family. I will be honest at this point: My kids have had enough family time and are starting to rummage through their Easter baskets to see what goodies they have.
