Discover Your Harry Potter Wizarding World Name
Have you ever wondered what your wizarding world name would be? It’s something me and my kids always talk about! Coming from a family riddled with gingers, it’s no surprise what we all decided we were! But, what about you?

Let me show you a super simple activity that will help you really step into the shoes of your witch or wizard self and bring a bit of excitement to the question every Harry Potter fan has had! Grab my printable “What’s your Wizard Name’ party printable to find out!
Why choose a name in the first place?
Well I know you already have a name, but what’s the fun in pretending to be you when you could be a full-fledged wizard! With everyone getting their own unique names, it’s such an easy way to start a party off right and get the atmosphere in the right place.
When arriving at a party, kids can sometimes feel a little awkward in a home or place that isn’t their own, so this is a way of breaking through that barrier and add a bit of fun to those beginning steps.
What’s your wizarding world name?
I’m sure you’re just as eager to find out what your very own magical name is, so let me tell you how it works:

- Take the first letter of your name – This is what determines the first part to your wizarding name.
- Your favorite color – This is like a bonus name sandwiched right in the middle.
- The month you were born – The final touch, the wizarding family into which you were born into.
For example; If your name starts with ‘A’. your favorite color is blue, and your birthday is in may, then your wizarding world name would be Ignatious Oberon Potter!
Connections with Harry Potter
When I was coming up with this, I tried to use surnames for the two generators that appear within the Harry Potter universe that even basic fans would recognise most of. So, that means you could end up as a studious Dumbledore, or a death-defying Potter!
Wizarding World Names
You can grab copies of my name generators for witches and wizards from the bottom of my blog post to print for yourself at home!
This is such an easy and fun little activity to bring a bit of life to your Harry Potter themed party. Once your guests (and parents too!) have figured out their own magical names, there isn’t a better way to go about displaying it then with some of the name tags which I’ve included in the kit.
To make sure the printable looking amazing, follow these tips:
- Print onto Bright White Card or Paper. Makes the colors pop – Bright white card makes sure that the colors are sharp and vivid when printed.
- Laminate the Game: If your witches and wizards are prone to a bit of mischief, this extra layer of protection might just be what is needed for keeping it looking nice
- Print the name tags onto sticker paper! No need for pins, peel and stick!
How to Attach the name tag
Depending on your overall look or even budget, there are loads of different ways which you can get about making sure these name tags look the best.
- Safety Pins – Glue or tape a safety pin or a badge onto the back of the paper/card which you’ve written the generated name on and then pin it to the clothes of the little witches and wizards!
- Sticker paper – With sticker paper, kids can write their name and then peel-and-stick their name tags onto their clothes without ever needing any extra supplies
- Washi-tape – Me and my daughter have a slight obsession for washi tape. It’s low-tac, comes in plenty of different patterns, and doesn’t leave a nasty residue to clean up. You can also use this tape to stick the generators to the wall for everybody to see!

Fun Games for a Harry Potter Party
Ok you have the perfect activity for when you guests arrive or as a filler activity but what other fun and games can you include in your Harry Potter party? Here are a few Ideas to get you started.
1. Wizard Treasure Hunt
Set up a magical wizarding treasure hunt! Create clues and hide them around your home or yard. Each clue should lead the young wizards and witches to the next location. At the end of the hunt, a treasure chest filled with goodies awaits them!
If you love the idea of having a treasure hunt but don’t have the time to plan one I’ve got you covered! I’ve made a few over the years, grab one of my ready made kits.

2. Potion Making Station
Set up a potion-making station using edible ingredients. Label the ingredients with fun, magical names and let the kids mix their own potions. They’ll feel like real Hogwarts students in Professor Snape’s class! Here are some ideas:
- Butterbeer: Mix cream soda with butterscotch syrup and top with whipped cream.
- Polyjuice Potion: Combine green apple juice with jelly candies shaped like insects.
- Felix Felicis: Sparkling apple cider with edible glitter.
3. Wizard Relay Race
A wizard relay race is an excellent way to keep the kids active. Split kids into teams. Each team collects wizarding items for one member to dress up in.
Items to include: Black Cloak, a wizard’s hat, a wand, an owl or toad (stuffed toy or decorated balloons), a book of spells, and a cauldron. The first team to fully dress their wizard wins!

4. Wand Making
Let the kids craft their own wands with a wand-making station. Provide a collection of different sticks, glitter, beads, and ribbons. Add vintage looking labels to decorations to match items that are used in the construction of wands.
- Unicorn hair (ribbon)
- Dragon heart string (red string)
- Phoenix feather – feathers
- Troll whisker – regular twine
Not only will they have a blast making them, but they’ll also have a unique keepsake to take home.
Harry Potter Party Favor Ideas
Let’s talk party favors! These fun goodies all have a wizarding theme. You really don’t need to go overboard spending a lot of money on goodies. Let’s take a look at some fun options that won’t break the bank. Pick just one and team up with some colouring pages and slice of birthday cake and you’re good to go.
- Chocolate Frogs: Who can resist the allure of chocolate frogs? You can buy frog-shaped molds and make chocolate frogs ahead of time. Wrap each chocolate frog in gold foil and place them in mini boxes, just like in the books and movies.
- House Bracelets: Let the kids show off their Hogwarts house pride! You can create mini bracelet kits in the colors of Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin.
- Spellbook Notebooks: With their witch or wizard name acquired now the kids need a place to jot down their spells. Small notebooks can be transformed into spell books with a little creativity. Grab some natural looking notebooks and tie with ribbon to match house colours. Add a simple natural wooden pencil and you’re done.
