Free Spy Fingerprint & Hand Scanner Prop
Hosting a spy or secret agent party? Why not, it’s a classic and is suitable for all ages, not just for the kiddies. I like to theme my parties and throw everything and the kitchen sink at them, and this party theme was no different! Naturally, I decided I was missing some kind of hand or spy fingerprint scan for the kiddies to use upon entry to the party. There were some free apps around, but why use an app when I can make something lol! Seriously, I have to have a long chat with myself about this obsession with making everything!
Is this actually a scanner?
These are just videos edited to look like a scanner. Nothing is actually scanned but the graphics are intended to look as though they are. Nothing high-tech or fancy. I think it does the job, you just need to set the scene. So, after a few hours of faffing around, I finished the videos and added some spy-ish music to the background. Surprisingly, I got carried away and added in a QR code for the players to scan. I’m pretty pleased with how they turned out.
Host an Epic Spy Party
You can’t go wrong with choosing a spy party theme for anyone for any occasion! It has to be an excellent go-to party option.
You can tailor the party for any celebration, and I have many times. From my hubbies, recent big 40 to one of my kiddo’s sleep-over parties. I have hosted and helped plan many a Spy-themed event. If you want to take out some of the planning and prep, I have a few spy printables all ready to download, print and play. There is plenty to choose from, from secret message kits to decorations.
When it comes to planning your party, my first port of call is always Pinterest, I love it and highly recommend you go take a look. Here is the link to my Spy Party Pinterest board
How to use the scanner video
Back to the hand scanner. We used a tablet for our event. We pre-scanned the QR code to get the video loaded onto our device and had this laid out on a table, ready to scan people’s hands. This set the scene nicely. You will have to press the play button each time you pretend to scan someone.
For the fingerprint scanner, I popped the QR code printable onto the door. As the kids arrived, I would get them to scan the QR code with my phone and then let them into the party when the scan was done.
The fingerprint scan works really well as a prop for your spy party. If you fancy another fun prop, take a look at my Spy ID badges. Once your guests have completed their scan you can issue them with a HQ spy badge! You can have the ID badges pre-made and ready to hand out to guest or have them fill in their own ID names.

The spy fingerprint props are totally FREE for you to use. You can print the QR code mini-posters and decorate at your party for guests to scan or already have the videos loaded onto your device. You will need to press play for each potential fingerprint or hand scan. If like me you don’t fancy child slobber all over your device have a small pot of antibacterial hand gel at the ready before each use.
