Easter Treasure Hunt

Love, love, love an Easter treasure hunt. Call it what you will, a scavenger hunt or treasure hunt; the goal is the same. Find the loot! If you haven’t done a treasure hunt with your kids this year could be a great time to start a family tradition.
I have made it super easy to do. All you really need to do is grab a pair of scissors and set up your route. I made two versions of this hunt, one for outside and one for inside.
Everyone’s home is different and full of unique hiding spots. I made sure that there are plenty of options available to you to be able adapt the game. If you don’t have a swing in your backyard, no problem. Use the blank clues cards to send players to a different location.
I would recommend laminating some of the clues to reuse next year. You’ll be able to throw in some different locations and make a totally different route!
What’s in the Easter Treasure Hunt Kit?
There are 14 pre-made locations in each of the Easter treasure hunt kits. You can play the clues in any order. If you don’t want to use all of the clues, no problem. Just pick and choose only the clues you want to include in your treasure hunt.
Some of the ready-made clues can be adapted to lead to your own locations. This is fab for when you want to lead players to those secret hiding spots in your home or backyard.
Follow the carrot clue!
Players will find a card that tells them to follow the carrots. This will lead them to their next clue. So simple, right? All you need to do is print out the carrots in the kit and leave a trail leading players from one location to the next. You can make the route as long or short as you like. If you fancy you could even use real carrots!
Secret Codes!
I like my treasure hunts to be more than just rhyming clues. As my children have grown up, I’ve found I’ve needed to make the treasure hunts more challenging. By including secret codes, the games are far more entertaining. My children now need to work a lot harder to find their Easter eggs. It’s totally worth the effort of setting up.
You can grab both versions of the Easter treasure hunt game over in the store. All the hard work has been done for you. Just print out the kit and choose which locations you would like to play.
Make It A Mini Escape
With a little bit of extra effort on your part, you could totally make this into an Easter escape room game. At each location, you can lock clues inside any kind of container. A box bag or even a backpack can be locked to conceal your clues.
- Attach a tag to your locked box. The tag has instructions for the players as to where they can find the key to open the box.
- If you have a number lock create a simple sum to reveal the code to open the lock. Write the sum onto one of the blank clue cards in the kit and attach it to the locked box.
- Or try one of my favorite clues. Place a bowl of mini eggs or jelly beans in a bowl. The players will sort them into colors, and count. If you have a three-lock combination, have three different colored sweets. The number of sweets is the number you will set your lock to.
Free Easter Lock Clue Printable
While I was preparing this post we had to desperately do some shopping. With COVID restrictions in our town, it really isn’t an easy task. Anyhoo, they actually had some Cadbury mini eggs for sale. Not a big deal I hear you cry, but when you live in a town a 3-hour drive from a town you are pretty restricted with what you can find!
I was so excited and had to buy them to do a little lock demo. Well, that’s my excuse for buying some eggs lol! I put together 4 different clues. One is for Cadbury mini eggs and the other is for generic jelly beans. There is the option for a four or three-lock combination.
You can grab the printable sheet I used in the pictures above. of eggs and jellybean hints and use them in the treasure hunt kit or just as a simple way to hide some goodies.
