Easter is the perfect time to get creative and celebrate the holiday with a fun game! If you’re stuck for ideas on how to entertain your kids when they are home for the holidays look no further. I have an exciting idea I would love for you to try.

Try hosting your very own Easter escape game. It’s a great way to keep the kids occupied, have a laugh, and it will give them those all-important fun memories. Want all the details? Then read on and I will tell you about what an escape room is like, what supplies are needed, and activity tips from me so that you can easily set up one in your own at home!
Outside Easter Fun
Depending on the weather, head on outside and set up your escape game in your garden. Pin the clues to fences, trees, or place clues inside these jumbo plastic eggs. In fact why not combine your escape room with an egg hunt? Each egg they find will hold a new clue for them to discover. These Jumbo eggs would work brilliantly.

What Puzzles Can You Use?
Here is a list of simple puzzles that you can put together to create a fun Easter Escape room.
#1 Jigsaw Puzzle:
The humble jigsaw puzzle is a perfect choice. Grab a cute Easter picture and write a clue players need on it. When you are happy cut the picture into pieces to create a jigsaw puzzle.
Here are a few ideas to add an extra layer to this simple jigsaw puzzle idea:
- Write you clue using UV pen
- Write your clue using a secret code or cipher. Check out this blog post with a list of fun secret codes you can use in your escape room.
- Write the clue Morse Code
- The message can be a simple math problem. When the players solve it, it reveals the numbers open a lock.
#2 Mirrors:
A simple addition to an escape room is the use of mirrors. It is something you can find in most homes so you dont have to go out and buy props for you add them.

- Write a message on a mirror using a paintbrush and oil. When the mirror is fogged up the message will be revealed.
- Write a message that can only be revealed by holding it up to a mirror.
#3 Collect Objects:
Have players search for and find certain objects. When they collect all the objects they reveal information that the players need.
For an Easter escape room plastic eggs would work brilliantly. Inside the eggs, place the information the players need. It could be a codeword they need, a lock combination, or a location they need to go to.
#4 Mazes:
Create a plain maze and write your message along the correct path through the maze. If you want to make it more difficult the message can be written in code.
#5 Grill Cipher
I love using grille ciphers, they are really simple to put together and you dont need any fancy supplies

Grab a book, magazine, or anything with text on it. You’re going to want to pick out a few words that will create your message (this is the trickiest part). Now grab a piece of paper or card and lay it on top of text. Mark on the paper where the words are, you’ll want to cut out these areas. When the plain paper is laid on top, only those words can be seen.
Ideas on Where To Hide Clues
There are lots of fun ways to hide clues in your Easter escape room. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
- Place clues inside slime. Yep my kids love this! I use floristry beads or Jelli Baff and have the kids fish out clue pieces. This idea works really well if you have a jigsaw puzzle-type clue.
- Pin clues behind a door, under a table or chair.
- Hide clues by writing them using UV ink. This is another favorite with kids!
- Tuck clues inside books.
- Place clues inside a picture frame.
- Lock clue inside a locked box bag or container.

Add Suspense With A Timer
My personal preference is just to the let my kids play until they have solved all the puzzles. I do however set a timer so we can record the time the kids completed the escape room. A lot of brick and mortar escape room companies have an hours limit on a game, but that’s just good business practice to get more people through the doors.
This doesn’t have to apply to your DIY Easter escape room. It is fun to have a timer running in the background, it adds to the suspense. I personally don’t like restricting the game to just an hour though.
Head over to YouTube to find a countdown timer to display on your TV. There is bound to be one that matches your theme.
Escape Room Props
Adding props to the room where you are planning to set up your game is a great way to make it feel more special. For an Easter themed escape room, think about adding some fake grass, colourful eggs and bright decorations.
Don’t forget to add some music, it is an instant way to add atmosphere to your game.
Want a Ready-Made Easter Escape Room!
When it comes to fun things to do over Easter, our escape rooms and treasure hunts are topping many people’s lists, and for a good reason too!
The games are available instantly, and with a little preparation, you can really go to town and make an epic game. The puzzle-based games give your kids the chance to step away from the computer for some screen-free Easter fun.

As well as the main game material I have added plenty of extras. The puzzles in the kit are perfect for parents looking to create a memorable easter experience for their kids. This would a perfect way to reveal a stash of Easter treats or a special Easter gift.
- A printable lock kit
- Photobooth props for the end of the game
- A selection of selfie posters
- A certificate
- Favor bag topper – a fun treat for the end of the game
The lock kit is particularly handy if you want to make the game more challenging for older children. Plus the extra lock printable can add even more puzzles into your game.

What Age is This For?
This easter game is perfect for kids aged 7+. If you have younger children, they could join in but may need someone to help. This is a great opportunity for older siblings and parents to get in on the action.
This isn’t a game created for escape room veterans looking for a challenge; it is a fun game that kids can solve. By adding some locks to your game and hiding clues, you can make the game more entertaining for older kids.
A Treat For The End Of The Game!
I use the Escape room as a way to reveal some Easter treats. I like to have an Easter basket. I fill the basket with edible goodies, pocket money prizes and a coupon book for activities to do together as a family.

- CUDDLY BUNNY RABBIT
- EASTER SIDEWALK CHALK
- PlayDoh EASTER EGGS
- DINOSAUR EXCAVASION EGG
- CHOCOLATE BUNNIES
