Planning a Spy Themed Birthday Party

You’ll want to start by thinking about the specific elements that are going to make your party unique and exciting. Here are some of my top tips, together with ideas for planning a spy party for kids that they will never forget:

• INVITATIONS: Let your child’s guests know they’re in for an adventure by sending out spy-themed invitations. Use code names and spy logos, and even create a “top secret” message for your guest to decipher. In short this will set the tone for the upcoming party!

• DECOR: Create a “secret lair” for the party with the help of decorations. You can hang a “top secret” banner, have posters of spy movies on the walls, and scatter magnifying glasses, binoculars, and other spy gear around the party space to add to the atmosphere. Having suspenseful music is also a lot of fun, you’ll find a heap of soundtracks on YouTube you can play. • GET DRESSED UP: Make sure that all your guests are dressed up properly for the spy party. Such as trench coats, hats, scarves, and glasses or go super simple by having them all attend the party dressed in black.

• ACTIVITIES: Set up activity stations, like an area for fingerprinting, creating secret codes, or an obstacle course, where kids can complete challenges like laser beams to avoid. One of my favorite birthday party activities is a scavenger hunt. Set up clues around the house or garden, finally leading to a spy-tastic prize.

• FOOD: Serve a menu of themed finger foods such as “spy skewers,” which are chunks of fruit, veggies, or cheese on kebab sticks. Make and label snacks with spy names, like “C4 explosives” (popcorn), and have “water bottles that look like “truth serum.” Finally, of course, don’t forget the spy birthday cake to celebrate!

• PARTY FAVOURS: Send home the young guests with personalized “spy kits,” including a mini flashlight, magnifying glass, notepad, and UV pen. Then, pop all the items into a party bag with a thank you note. Finally, I like to include coloring pages and puzzles that I will print out at home, which are super affordable.

Spy Birthday Party Activities

Entertaining kids with exciting spy missions will make the party a blast. Here are a few ideas for activities to include at your spy-themed party:

2. Fingerprint Analysis – Have kids use ink and paper to take fingerprints of guests. Then, have them use a magnifying glass to analyze the prints. Keep some baby wipes handy to clean up those messy fingers!

3. Red Code Treasure Hunt – Give kids a series of clues that lead them on a hunt through the house or backyard. When the players find the clues they must be revealed by using a red piece of acetate. 5. Bomb Disposal Scavenger Hunt – Have the kids search for and “defuse” bombs. You will need some black or red balloons then add some secret messages rolled up and hidden inside. Have each of the bombs lead to a new location until they defused all the bombs and reached the end of the hunt.

6. Spy Name Activity – This is a great time-filler game to do as your guests arrive. It’s a fun icebreaker activity, which then, in turn, will get guests chatting. You can have the kids write their names into secret agent badges. You can buy cheap badge holders on Amazon. Then you can use these as a party favors!

7. Create Your Own Spy Gadgets – Have each guest design their own spy gadget. Then, using simple craft supplies like construction paper, pipe cleaners, and other craft items, they get to make it. Think James bond and Inspector gadget! Go go gadget laser watch!

8. Disguise relay race – have the party split into two teams. Ultimately, the aim is to collect and dress up one member of the team in disguise. The first team to finish wins. Be sure to grab silly wigs, bow ties, hats, glasses, and other fun props. This is a lot of fun and, of course, lets the kids burn off some of their super sleuthing energy.
