Whether you plan to host your own DIY escape room at home or head off to one of the many fantastic real-life escape rooms, your little partygoers will undoubtedly want to receive an epic party favour to take home. I remember it being stupidly exciting sat at home after the party was over and seeing what loot you have as a memento of the party. Not to mention there was always cake, and everybody likes cake!
The ’80s Party Bag!
Back in the ’80s, a party bag would always contain a balloon, usually a packet of fake sweet cigarettes and mini chocolate bars and a bouncy ball! If you were lucky to get an invite to a posh party, you might even get a pencil and a mini pad of paper. Those were the days! Roll forward a few years, and the humble party bag has grown into a beast! When it all boils down to it, your choice of favors should always include sweets. Just saying kids love sweets, and so do the adults who inspect the party bag first for its contents, haha! Not that I have swiped goodies from my kids’ party bags, honest!
Secret Agent Pen Party Favor
These will be a total hit for popping into your party bag. Kids love secret messages, and they will have fun using them. I can see these being packed into the kids’ pencil case and carried off to school Monday morning! Grab a pack of invisible in pens.
There are lots of different UV pens available, you should be able to pick up a bundle for a reasonable amount. Teamed up with a notebook and you have a great addition to your party bag.
Individual Mini Metal Puzzles
These mini-puzzles are a fun addition to your favor bag. I like gifts that will last a little longer and actually have a purpose. These will get the grey matter firing, which is a win-win scenario.
Grab yourself a jumbo pack of puzzles to add to your escape room party favor collection.
Puzzle Eraser Party Favor
Erasers are always a great hit in a party bag, both my children love getting these and my daughter has a rather large collection of all kinds of erasers she has collected over the years. These are useful and inexpensive and likely to actually be used by the kids.
Keep in mind that some of the erasers may break down into small pieces, so beware of a choking hazard. Perfect addition for school-age children.
Spy Notebooks
Mini notebooks teamed up with a UV pen would be a great favor for your kids’ escape room party. It’s something kids will actually use, unlike a plastic novelty that will be lurking in the bottom of a drawer for years to come.
Pick up some inexpensive notebooks from the dollar/pound store and add a top-secret sticker to the front or you can purchase these ready made ones.
Favor Boxes
I like these top-secret favor boxes, they are easy to assemble, and not too large that you look stingy if you haven’t filled it to the brim with goodies. If you do struggle to find things to put inside on a tight budget, why not simply print out some puzzle sheets and clues for them to solve and fluff up the box with tissue paper. Again some cheap sweets are a great filler and kids love sweets! They are more expensive than regular party boxes so a good alternative is a plain coloured treat box and add your own top-secret stamp on top. Here is a link to some red ones but you can choose any colour for your party
Chocolate Gun
This looks absolutely amazing and is from another lovely seller over on Etsy. They offer different sets of chocolate guns. I know possibly not to everyone’s budget or ideal for little uns party bags, but I thought they would be fab for an adults spy party. The shop is called LindyPopChocs there are lots of different chocolate goodies to be found go take a gander.
If you are looking for a cheaper alternative and you fancy a spot of DIY you always grab a few supplies and create your own chocolate treats to pop into the goodies bags.
I have done a spot of DIY chocolate favor making in my time, I made some chocolate bars for one of my kids birthdays and they worked a treat. You will need to set aside some time to make your goodies. Get yourself some decent chocolate, molds (I have used funky ice cube trays), and perhaps some cello bags to keep your creations pristine.

Printable Decoder Wheel
This is a really easy to put together party favour and is one of my digital kits. You can print out a few sets of decoder wheels onto card or even laminate if you want them to be super durable. Add a split pin through the middle of the wheel to move freely, and then the kids can start making their secret codes.
- Individually packaged.
- Great for old and young.
- Screen-free entertainment!
