Thanksgiving is all about getting everyone together, enjoying good food and spending time with family. But once the dirty plates have been cleared away and everyone’s had a chance to recover from that second helping of pumpkin pie, it’s always good to have a few games up your sleeve!
And if your family enjoys a little friendly competition, Thanksgiving Family Feud could be exactly the fun you need.
Who didn’t love the thrill of watching Family Feud as a kid? The race to guess the top answers before the buzzer, the anticipation as contestants racked their brains under pressure, and those unforgettable moments when the most unexpected answers stole the show. I grew up sitting around the TV watching the show with my family. It was essential Saturday viewing!
That’s what makes this game such a fun addition to a Thanksgiving gathering. Everyone gets involved, the answers aren’t always as obvious as you’d think, and there’s usually at least one person who takes the competition far more seriously than anyone expected.
I’ve put together some Thanksgiving Family Feud questions and answers, along with simple instructions for playing at home. And if you’d rather skip the preparation, I’ve also created a printable version so you can get straight to the fun.
What Is Thanksgiving Family Feud?
Let me fill you in if you’ve never heard of Family Feud. Two families would compete head to head to guess the top answers to survey questions. Relying on each other’s quick thinking and teamwork. It’s lively, competitive, and often a hilarious team game.

Here are a few things you need
- Thanksgiving Friendly Feud questions & answers (grab the printable kit)
- Game buzzer or bell (something to make a noise)
- A phone with a timer or a regular timer.
- Pen and paper to keep track of each team’s scores.
Setting Up Your Game:
- Print and Prep: Download and print the game materials, including answer sheets and strike boards. Although I’ve included everything you need, feel free to use regular paper to write down your scores.
- Kick Off the Fun: As you kick off the game, your host will choose a question card and keep the answers covered so nobody peeks. Let the first round begin!
Playing Thanksgiving Family Feud
You’ll need a timer for the last quick fire round. You can use the timer on your phone for this:
- Divide into Teams: Split your group into two teams. One member from each team will face off as the host reads a question.
- Guess and Play: The team with the quickest or highest-scoring answer decides whether to play or pass. The goal? Reveal all top answers without hitting three strikes.
- Steal the Round: If your team gets three strikes on a question, the other team can steal by guessing just one correct answer. Get it right, and they scoop up all the round’s points!
How to Play Thanksgiving Family Feud

Step-by-Step Instructions
- Prepare the Questions & Answers. Print the Thanksgiving Family Feud Questions and Answers sheet. If you’d like, write each answer with its point value on a large poster board beside the question number, covering each with construction paper. When a player guesses an answer, peel off the paper to reveal the points. Or, keep it simple by using the printables included in my done-for-you kit.
- Choose a Game Host. Select someone to be the game host who will read all the Thanksgiving themed questions and guide the game.
- Divide into Teams. Split players into two teams. Have the teams sit across from each other, ready for some festive competition.
- Pick Team Captains. Each team should choose a captain to lead and make the final call on answers.
- Set Up a Buzzer Station. Place a buzzer or bell on a table at the front of the first players. They will race to hit it when they’re ready to answer.
- Designate a Timekeeper. Assign someone to run the timer on their phone, keeping track of each team’s response time (this could be the game host).

How to Play Thanksgiving Feud
Alright, here’s how to play Thanksgiving Friendly Feud, step-by-step!
First, each team picks a captain, and they’re the first one up. Both captains will head to the table in front of the room for the first “face-off.” The host reads a question, and the first captain to hit the buzzer has 5 seconds to give what they think is the most popular answer, the one with the highest points, ideally the #1 answer.
If they guess the #1 answer, their team gets to decide: do they want to play the round or pass it over to the other team? If they decide to play, both captains go back to sit with their teams.
Now, if the first captain doesn’t get the #1 answer, the other team’s captain gets 5 seconds to try and guess it themselves. If they get it right, their team can choose whether to play or pass. If neither captain gets the #1 answer, the team with the highest answer can choose to play or pass.
When a team plays, each player from that team will take turns answering the question, trying to guess any remaining popular answers. They each get 5 seconds to answer. The goal is to uncover all the answers on the game board. But here’s the catch: any answer they give has to be unique, no repeats allowed!
Don’t get a strike!
Every wrong answer earns the team a strike; three strikes mean they lose the chance to win the round. When that happens, the other team has one shot to steal by coming up with a single answer they think is on the board. If they guess correctly, they win all the points for that round. If they don’t guess correctly, the original team keeps their points from that round.
After that round, move on to the next face off, with the next players in line. The host reads a new question, and this time the round continues with the team members in the same order. Keep going like this for about 4 rounds or for how every many rounds you want to play to be fair!

Who wins the game?
At the end of each round, the winning team tallies up their points based on all the correct answers they got. The team with the highest score at the end of all rounds wins! In the TV show, the winning team would then play a final quick fire round to guess high earning points. Two players would try to guess the top answer final feud questions.
I’ve include a set quick fire questions to be played after each set of four main team feud questions in the printable. But When we have played family feud at home we’ve never done the quick fire round we just use those questions for the team game.
My Tips for Hosting a Fun Thanksgiving Family Feud Game
The best thing about playing Thanksgiving Family Feud at home is that you can make your own rules. Don’t get stuck on trying to follow the TV game show 100%. The aim should be having fun. You may find someone though who is a stickler to the rules, I’m not one of those, so I always have a caveat that the host has the final say!
Mix Up the Teams
If you’ve got children and adults playing together, mix up the teams. It gives everyone a chance to contribute, and you’ll be surprised by some of the hilarious answers the kids come up with.
And I really wouldn’t worry about having perfectly even teams. Yes, your great aunt might call it unfair when the team with an extra player wins but it all adds to the game playing banter.
Keep the Game Moving
I can guarantee that there will be that one person who wants to debate whether their answer should count. I know you know the one, haha! So as I have already mentioned, before you start, tell everyone that the host gets the final say. It saves those endless squabbles.
Don’t Be Afraid to Change the Rules
You don’t have to follow every rule from the television version.
Sometimes we skip the quickfire round altogether and simply add those questions to the main game. It means everyone gets more opportunities to answer, and we can keep playing for as long as we’re enjoying ourselves.
Make It a Little More Competitive
If your family loves a challenge, add a simple prize for the winning team. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, our family loves the bragging rights!
And if you’ve got that certain someone in the family who takes winning very seriously, (my mother in law!) well, that’s even better entertainment.
Choose the Right Time to Play
Thanksgiving Family Feud is brilliant because you don’t need to clear a huge space to set up the game. You can play a few quick rounds while everyone relaxes or turn it into the main entertainment for the evening.
My biggest tip? Don’t worry about making everything perfect. As long as everyone understands the rules and gets a chance to join in, you’re off to a great start. And if the game goes slightly off track because everyone is arguing over the most popular Thanksgiving pie, that’s all part of the fun!

For the Thanksgiving Family Feud you’ll want two teams and someone to act as the host. You don’t need exactly five people on each team like you see on the TV show. If you have an uneven number of guests. Simply divide everyone into two groups and you’re ready to play. You’ve gotta love a little friendly competition!
Absolutely! In fact, having different generations playing together just makes the game even more entertaining. Kids give some of the best answers. Try to evenly mix children and adults across both teams.
Not at all, but adding buzzers is fun. Players can raise their hands, ring a bell or use another simple way to signal they’re ready to answer.
That really depends on how many rounds you decide to play and how competitive your family gets! If you’re short on time, choose a few questions and play a shorter version. Or, if everyone is enjoying themselves, keep going with more rounds. It’s a pretty easy game to adapt around your other Thanksgiving plans.
Heck yes! In fact its a great thing to do. Create questions about your family’s Thanksgiving traditions, favourite foods or those little things that always seem to happen when everyone gets together. You could even ask family members to answer the questions beforehand and use their responses to create your own survey style game.
Yes! You can keep things super simple with a printed list of questions and answers. If you want more of a visual TV game show experience, you can make a reveal board with covered answers or use a printable game kit to save yourself some preparation.
The answers and point values in my printable are designed to recreate the fun of a Family Feud style game. They’re not taken from an official television survey, and I haven’t surveyed 100 people.
